Pretty River Academy

Pretty River Academy believes in a balance of academics, the arts, and athletics. Our students are encouraged to utilize their strengths to develop additional areas that interest them, through integrative learning and active participation.

Academics

Pretty River Academy teachers are passionate about sharing their expertise with students. Our students participate in a diversity of events, including the University of Waterloo Mathematics Contests, arts performances, classical drama, public speaking, math and science fairs. Through patron, community, and parent support, Pretty River Academy has a full science lab, physical education facilities, and music and art rooms. Pretty River Academy offers extensive language instruction in English, French, and Spanish.

Arts

All students, Junior kindergarten through Grade 8 have instruction in Art, Music and Drama. Every student participates in a Drama performance at least once a year. Student artwork is displayed throughout the school as well as in local galleries. The students have the opportunity to enter into an art auction annually. The music curriculum includes both instrumental and voice instruction. Students perform for the school community as well as at other community events and facilities. Select students who excel in music, compete in the Kiwanis Music Festival. High School students have the option to continue their studies in Art and/or Music and all participate in a yearly drama performance.

Athletics

Academy Athletics include competitive individual and team sports as well as intramural and elective programs. Flexible programming for elite athletes accommodates vigorous training schedules while ensuring a high academic standard.

Community

As members of the local and global community, community service is an integral part of our students lives.
