In the Classroom

Pretty River Academy's challenging curriculum spans classical studies to cutting edge technology. We stress writing, mathematics, science and technology, French and Spanish and computers. There is a strong emphasis on art and drama, physical education and music; students sing and learn to play the recorder in the younger years, then move on to a brass or woodwind instrument in grade six. Students also learn how to make healing teas and salves in herbal science and how to cook a delicious meal in culinary class.

The triad of student, parent and teacher relationship is one of the components that make Pretty River Academy students successful.

Student, teacher and parent work hard to move forward through regular and open communication, creating a positive and supportive environment. This effective communication results in all members of the triad being aware of courses of action to be undertaken to achieve the desired results.

The information on student achievement gathered through assessment and evaluation will be communicated to students and parents at regular intervals and in a variety of formal and informal ways. The Report Card is the formal assessment and the Ontario Student Transcript provides a record of students' standing with regard to the secondary school diploma requirements. Ontario Student Records will be obtained from students' previous schools and kept on file. Parents should request interviews with teachers to address any questions regarding the student Report Card.
